Nexeon MedSystems is an operational investment company focused on ideas driven entirely by clinical need. As a result, we are generally agnostic to specific technologies, and we tend to apply the most appropriate technology for the clinical need at hand. Translational science sometimes requires the addition of capital, either at-risk or intellectual.

We have addressed a number of clinical needs with telemedicine, active implantable devices, drug delivery combinations, interventional devices, nanotechnology, and the use of novel biomaterials.

Going forward, in many of our current research projects, the solutions we're developing are a unique blend of traditional device technologies such as electronics, software, mechanical engineering and material science, as well as pharmaceuticals, protein chemistry and cell biology.

On the forefront of what is now called the "lean startup" model, Nexeon has focused exclusively on its rapid, highly capital-efficient development process since its inception in 2005 using proceeds from licensing and non-dilutive grants to finance the riskiest portions of clinical science. In most cases, Nexeon was able to generate clinical data within 18 months of funding and with less than $1MM in non-dilutive financing. Nexeon was founded in 2005 by Mark C. Bates, M.D., a thought leader in interventional cardiology and a medical device inventor with more than 60 issued and pending patents.  Dr. Bates formed Nexeon with the goal of changing how innovative ideas in the medical device industry move from concept to reality.  Nexeon's team of scientists, engineers, clinicians, and business leaders share this vision.

The company's employees have strong track records of successfully developing and commercializing new technologies.  Working in conjunction with physicians, scientific advisors, and business experts, the team has advanced the founding medical device concepts of Dr. Bates into a diversified portfolio of products that will benefit patients with cardiovascular disease and many other medical conditions.
